Pupil learns about being a firefighter

A Pupil from Eastwood Comprehensive School was given an insight into the role of a firefighter this week after she was invited onto a work-experience programme with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

Laura Clarke spent a week with nine other pupils at the service’s development centre in Ollerton, trying her hand at hose running and pumping water as well as learning all about ladder safety and wearing breathing apparatus.

The group of 15-year-olds found out more about community safety work, road traffic collisions, first aid and the history of the fire and rescue service.

Watch Manager Kevin Ruane, who ran the work experience, said: “We have some fantastic resources and we hope the students get a lot out of the experience and consider a career with us.”
