Raw deal for town’s Christmas lights?

A KIMBERLEY councillor wants to establish how much money Broxtowe Borough Council spends on Christmas lights in each town, fearing Kimberley gets a raw deal.

Cllr Shane Easom said in a Kimberley Town Council meeting last Thursday he wanted to find out how much the council gives, per capita, to Eastwood, Kimberley, Beeston and Stapleford.

“Everybody puts into the pot and it appears that places like Eastwood and Beeston get more out of it,” he said. “It appears Kimberley is paying for itself with no help again.”

A spokesman for the borough council said: “The Christmas lights budget is £23,000. The money is for installation and is not split down per town. Separate capital bids are made for purchase of new decorations.

“Bear in mind that the size of the town centres vary which has an impact on the number of decorations used and the time taken to install.”
