Reader letter: Think strongly about your vote

Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, says George Osborne’s plans will mean that public spending will fall to levels not seen since the 1930s. I didn’t live through that decade myself but my parents and siblings did.

I suspect that their experience of the Great Depression was very different to that of the relatives of Messrs Osbourne and Cameron.

I have no doubt that he will take us back to the conditions prevailing in the 1930s - the growing need for food banks is proof that he is already well on the way.

In that decade the people of Jarrow marched to London to protest.

I suggest that come next May we should take a gentle stroll to the polling booth and think very carefully where to make our mark.
