The Awsworth Party on the Rec event smashed all records this year with a turnout of more than 7,000 people.
The chairman of the committee that organises it, Kurt Whitten, said the fun day last Saturday was ‘absolutely awesome’.
“The sun shone, we had a lot more people than expected and it was absolutely awesome,” he said.
“Everything went like clockwork. It went down a storm.”
There was body zorbing, Laser Quest, a puppet show, a circus skills workshop, loads of stalls and a birds of prey display.
Seven live bands topped the afternoon off.
“All the bands were absolutely brilliant,” added Kurt. “The whole event was just another great success.”
The Party on the Rec has been running for seven years, although last year’s event was cancelled due to the rain.
The attraction costs £14,000 to put on, which is raised by the committee from various fundraising events throughout the year.
A percentage of the takings goes to local causes and charities, and the rest of what is made on the day goes towards paying for the following year’s event.
Kurt said: “It’s a great community event where everyone can get together and enjoy themselves.”
