A water leak that runs outside private garages at the back of Cotmanhay homes is preventing people from parking their cars.

A constant stream of water has ran down past the garages off Nelson Streets and at the back of Keppel Court for ten years.

Residents have told the Advertiser they have had enough after years of trying to get the problem fixed.

Michael Beardsley said: “My wife’s in a wheelchair and I can’t park up in the garage or outside without having to push her throught the potholes which are full of water.

“I have to park further down the street because getting the wheelchair out and my wife into it isn’ an option at the garage.”

Neighbour Peter Hawley added: “My wife has had both hips replaced and this area is just a danger.

“I’ve just had a new car and everytime I get in or out my feet are soaking and all this dirty water is going all in the car.”

The pair say they and other neighbours have tried to get the problem sorted at various times over the past ten years.

Mr Beardsley, 69, said: “No one seems to know what’s happening with it all and until they o it can’t get sorted.

“We’re going to have to have another winter where this becomes an ice rink.

“It’s an accident waiting to happen. Someone will fall over or slip.”

Mr Hawley, 66, said: “It’s about time someone did something about it.

“It’s blocking off our garages and the stream runs down a public footpath.

“After all the rain we’ve had lately it’s got even worse, the water is right up to the garage doors and we just can’t use them.”

The men said thatDerbyshire County Council have assessed the problem and want to carry out investigation work but first need the permission of Three Valleys Housing.

Mr Hawley said: “We don’t care who does it, we just want it sorting out for good.”
