Selston High School High School’s performing arts department put on their Summer Showcase to a packed main hall on a hot and sunny evening.
Head teacher Mr Gaiderman, and Mrs Dixon, chairman of governors, were in attendance, as well as lots of proud parents, grandparents and students supporting their friends.
The fantastic show was opened by Year 10 student, Jodie Trafford, playing a stunning piano solo of Gershwin’s ‘Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off’, followed by performances from students from all years on many different instruments and vocals. Performances by the Selston High School Wind Band were joined by a number of musical staff members, who were thanked gratefully for their continued support.
During the interval guests were treated to refreshments of strawberries and cream and a welcome glass of elderflower fizz, provided by the BTEC Hospitality Team, led by Mrs Slater.
The second half began with the Junior Choir performing a great version of ‘That’s What Makes You Beautiful’ by One Direction. Stand out performances from Josh Redding, Ilana Parrwood and Ethan Drake, confirmed the high standard being reached by the students.
A performance of ‘Ho Hey’ by The Lumineers was fronted by a fantastic vocal duet from Alex Powell and Charlotte Straw of Year 10.
Rule The World’ by Take That was the closing number by the Senior Choir and was a fitting end to a fantastic evening.
The bar has now been set for future performances and we hope that more students will be inspired to get involved with the fantastic musical opportunities available in the performing arts department.Selston High School
