TWO shops in the borough could be facing legal action after being caught selling cigarettes to underage teenagers.
Trading Standards officers caught nine shops red handed when they tested 57 county-wide in an undercover operation.
The organisation is now considering what action should be taken against the stores.
Trading Standards Officers worked with volunteers aged 15 to 17 on the operation at newsagents, grocers, petrol stations and small supermarkets in the districts of Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, Broxtowe and Bassetlaw.
The sales took place at five shops in Bassetlaw, two in Newark and Sherwood and two in Broxtowe.
Shops can be fined up to £2,500.
