Shops help town’s high street

Six businesses are successfully established in Eastwood and Kimberley thanks to a start-up grant scheme offered by Broxtowe Borough Council.

The council offered grants to new shops and businesses taking on empty buildings in the High Street and has said it has been a ‘great success’.

The shops include New Adams Apple in Kimberley and in Eastwood, Dog Grooming, Nowt Added, Sweet Occassions, Game on Media and Eastwood Pineshop.

A further two shops in Beeston and one in Stapleford have also benefited from the scheme.

The money came from the Mary Portas High Street Innovation Fund last year.

Each business received two separate payments of £2,500 following meetings with a retail consultant, Kerching Retail Ltd. The consultants then helped each applicant set up a business plan and provided an advice pack on how to run a business. Kerching Retail is now offering support to the businesses for their first year.
