A children’s cancer charity has been chosen by school pupils to receive cash from a fun run.
Awsworth Primary School is busy making preparations for its third annual 5K charity fun run.
Senior teacher Ian Baxter and the school’s head teacher Jane Mainprize are calling upon everyone involved with the school and the local community to get involved in the event which takes place on Sunday May 11.
“The first fun run took place in 2012 when we raised £2,500 for Muscular Dystrophy and we followed up last year by raising £2,700 for Mencap,” said Mrs Mainprize.
“ Our 5K fun run has special significance this year as we are doing it to support the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent which has been influential in helping one of our pupils who is in remission from leukaemia.”
Event co-ordinator Ian Baxter added: “This is a great opportunity to take part in a fun event while helping a really good cause.
“There will be medals for all finishers.
“Fancy dress is optional and there are prizes for varying categories.”
The 5k course follows a route around the village.
