SKATERS showed off their tricks on Saturday as the new £150,000 skate park was opened in Long Eaton.

The ‘plaza-style’ skate park, built at West Park, has been funded by Erewash Borough Council through a £145,000 capital investment and £5,000 from the Erewash Youth Forum.

The Mayor of Erewash Cllr Kevin Miller cut the ribbon at a ceremony to open the park.

Cllr Mike Wallis, lead member for culture and leisure, said: “The grand opening event was a great spectacle for all the family with skateboarders and rollerbladers showcasing their tricks and skating skills on this latest addition to the borough’s impressive range of recreational facilities.

“Compared to other sports, skateboarding has a growing number of participants and the new wheeled sports facility at West Park, Long Eaton, will provide increased choice for our young people and help to meet the council’s goal to achieve a healthy and vibrant community.”
