Claire Brown and Maxine Penny are the toast of Eastwood’s Slimming World classes after both losing more than five stone.

The pair were honoured with the ‘greatest loser’ award at a recent ceremony.

Slimming World consultant Amelia Christian applauded their efforts at the special presentation event and urged her members ‘to follow in the footsteps of Claire and Maxine as they are great role models.”

Presenting them with flowers, sashes and certificates following their achievements, Ms Christian said: “It has been a long road for Claire and Maxine, but their perseverance, determination and commitment has paid dividends.

Claire, 39, a travel consultant from Heanor, has gone from being a size 24 to a size 16, losing 5 stones and 7lbs.

“Since starting my weight loss regime my motto has been ‘dream it, believe it, achieve it.” she said.

Weeping tears of joy, Claire, who has a four-year-old daughter, said: “I never thought that I could do it but I have stuck at it and from the compliments I have received on my new look.

“I am so proud.”

For Maxine, 56, a former bus driver and pub barmaid from Eastwood, losing weight has been ‘a daunting experience.

On many occasions she has wanted to give in.

“I was a size 32 when I knew I had to take action and since joining Eastwood’s Slimming World ‘I have found a new lease of life and never looked back.

“I am now down to a size 18 and my quality of life has improved no end,” she said.

“I owe so much to Amelia who has been a hard task master but so kind and encouraging on my journey.”

“The greatest loser award doesn’t sound very flattering but both Claire and I know full well that the certificates of achievements we have earned show that we are both winners!”
