A new solar farm measuring over three square kilometres could be built in Giltbrook.

Anthony Smith, landwoner of Birch Park, Park Lodge Road off the A610 intends to build the 250 kW solar panel array on his land, next door to tenants at Birchwood Price Tools.

The land-fixed power plant will incllude 1,000 solar panels, coverign an area of 74 metres by 48 (3,552 square metres) on Mr Smith’s land, producing the equivalent of 350 horsepower.

Agents of the project, Geo Green Energy are a Nottingham-based company, and say they are now one of the UK’s leading solar installers.

CEO James Cunningham said: “Mr Smith approached Geo Green Power to ask for advice on how we could best utilise renewable energy generation opportunities on his land to reduce the environmental impact of his industrial estate.

“The majority of the generated electricity will be consumed on site by the existing tenants.

The solar panels will reduce the estate’s carbon footprint by around 100 tonnes of CO2 per year.
