Teenager arrested over Kimberley sexual assault

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with the alleged serious sexual assault in Kimberley last week.

Police arrested the 19-year-old last Thursday after a 12-year-old girl from Ilkeston claimed she was attacked by two men in Maws Lane at around 10.30pm the previous night, Wednesday October 26.

People living in the road where the assault happened said they were ‘horrified’ when they heard news of the attack.

Emily Atkinson said: “It’s just terrible. It gives you chills.

“It’s too close to home. You hear about it happening in other places but you never expect it on your doorstep,” she said.

Sharon Louth’s front garden formed part of the police cordon, put in place across the grass bank where Maws Lane meets Lawn Mill Road.

She said police were at the scene all day last Thursday, the day after it happened, looking for clues.

“The forensics lady spent a long time on the grass bank and there were quite a few police men trawling through everything on my front garden and looking for things,” she said.

“My heart goes out to the girl. It’s awful,” she added.

Janet Sharpe who lives opposite the scene said: “Nothing surprises me anymore.”

Last week police released descriptions of two people.

They are still keen to trace a black male, described as muscular, aged about 19 and over 6ft tall. He was wearing a bandana.

n Anyone with information about this man or who witnessed the assault, is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 0300 300 99 99.

They can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
