Nottinghamshire County Council’s Philip Owen was described as a modern day version of Daddy Warbucks when he presented a cheque for £350 to the Kimberley-based NOWMADS theatre group towards its autumn production of the musical Annie.

Attending a rehearsal, Coun Owen described the group as “one of the county’s most talented and successful amateur companies”.

The money will be used to pay for costumes and equipment. Photo and story by Peter Jordan.
