More than 100 narrowboats are expected to line Erewash Canal through Langley Mill over spring Bank Holiday as part of a three-day boat rally.
The event is to mark the 45th anniversary of the Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association and the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Great Northern Basin in Langley Mill.
Boat owners from all over the country are expected to descend on the village for three days of events running from Saturday, May 25, to Monday May 27, from 10am until 5pm each day.
The Holymoorside Brass Band will kick off the opening ceremony on the Saturday morning with a performance from two narrowboats. Throughout the weekend there will be a host of trade stalls, a boaters’ dog show, face painting, story telling and plenty of food and refreshments including real ale .
A raffle with top prizes such as a Kindle Touch courtesy of Langley Mill’s 3663 depot and a £45 Asda gift card will run over the three days. Admission for the weekend is free.
Trade stall owners can still apply for a pitch to John Nixey on 07831 276557. Application forms are available from the website:erewashcanalpreservationanddevelopmentassoc.org.uk.
