THE resurrected proposal to start opencast mining on the land around Cossall and Awsworth will come as no surprise to most of our readers.
While news about the scheme has gone quiet in recent months, as soon as UK Coal first expressed an interest in the Shortwood Farm site, it was obvious that they were always going to come back with a plan.
There are concerns that the campaign group originally set up to fight these proposals has slipped into inactivity during the intervening period.
We know from people we have spoken to that there are concerns from nearby villagers about health, noise, safety and the loss of precious DH Lawrence land which they feel could be ruined forever by the scars of opencast mining.
But if people are angry about this then now is the time to try and act.
It will still be quite a while before any mining could actually start as they will have to go through the whole planning process first, but if you aren’t happy about these plans make sure you don’t leave it too late to have your voice heard.
