An Awsworth parish councillor believes the proposed Ilkeston train station would be a ‘great thing’ for the village and would offer people links to Nottingham.
Sarah Brown said public transport in Awsworth was poor and increased links would be ‘very positive’.
“Awsworth isn’t the best served area when it comes to public transport. There’s only one bus now that goes to Ilkeston and Kimberley.
“Increasesd transport investment around the area is a great thing.”
Cllr Brown said Awsworth had suffered since the T1 Phoenix Flyer had stopped last year.
She said a link to Nottingham city was taken away from local folk when the Phoenix Flyer stopped. This link would be rekindled if the train station goes ahead.
“The loss of the T1 hit Awsworth hard because it linked people up to the trams. This will give them their links back to Nottingham again,” added Cllr Brown.
The campaign for the station took a big leap forward in March when the Transport Secretary named the project as one of three ‘likely to win funding’.
MP Patrick McLoughlin said Ilkeston was one of three ‘front runners’ out of 14.
