Nottinghamshire County Council has paid tribute to the achievements of two-time Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington who has retired at the age of 23.
The 2010 double Commonwealth Games gold medallist has opted not to defend her titles in Glasgow next year, and will now focus on her campaigning work.
Adlington became Britain’s first female Olympic swimming champion in 48 years, with victories in the 400m and 800m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won two bronze medals at London 2012.
Coun John Cottee, Culture Committee Chairman, at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Becky Adlington is one of our sporting greats in what is the Sporting County. She has brought so much to the sport of swimming globally, and we are so proud of her achievements and wish her well in her future ventures.
