Two blazes investigated

Police are investigating two fires which took place over the weekend.

A large fire broke out at a disused industrial building in Carlton Road, Long Eaton, at around 2.30am on Saturday, June 9.

Police closed the road while firefighters from four stations, including Ilkeston and Long Eaton, tackled the blaze.

A joint investigation between police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed during the blaze as the roof of the building contained asbestos.

Anyone living near to the scene who has since found asbestos in their garden should call Erewash Borough Council.

Detectives are also investigating an arson at a house in Victor Crescent, Sandiacre.

Crews were called to the fire, which was started by something being put through the letterbox, at around 1.20pm on Sunday June 10.

No one was in the house at the time of the fire.

Anyone with information about either incident can call Long Eaton CID on 101.
