Newthorpe and Giltbrook have been hit with a spate of burglaries over the last few weeks.
There have been nine burglaries across the two villages to date so far this year, but seven of those have been over the last four weeks, Pc Dean Spalding told a Greasley Parish Council meeting on Monday night.
The officer said there had been 17 burglaries committed in the two villages throughout 2010.
And he pointed out that despite the recent spate, there had still been an ‘overall reduction’ when compared to last year.
“Keep you doors locked and windows closed and if you see anything suspicious call the police,” he warned councillors.
The Giltbrook and Newthorpe beat officer said there had been 12 reported incidents of violence this year compared to 18 last year.
