EASTWOOD Town manager Paul Cox says his players should take nothing for granted as they host bottom side Vauxhall Motors this weekend.
The Merseysiders are currently rooted to the bottom of the table and have conceded ten goals in their last two matches.

But having been on the receiving end of one of Vauxhall's two victories this season, Cox and his players are ready to work hard in order to get their revenge.

"As always with games like this it's about having the right mentality," said Cox.

"We need to learn from the mistakes we made in the game at their place, where we had an excellent first-half and then conceded three goals in about seven minutes which ultimately cost us the game.

"We're on a good run which is so important and if we go in with the right frame of mind we'll do well, but if we don't, and the players think they just have to turn up to win, then that's where they end up getting caught out," said Cox.

Vauxhall were soundly beaten 5-0 at home by fellow strugglers Redditch United on Saturday, before visiting Telford on Tuesday where once again they were unceremoniously dispatched, this time 5-1.

Having seen their match at Telford called off on Saturday lunchtime, after the Eastwood team bus had left Coronation Park, the Badgers were back in action on Tuesday night in the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup.

The 3-1 win over Arnold Town was a tough outing for Cox's side, but one he was pleased to win.

He said: "To be fair to Arnold they came and made life tough for us and were very difficult to break down.

"It was another game where the players couldn't afford to take their opponents lightly. We brought in Markell Bailey and Theo Stair and they did well, while giving the likes of Ian Holmes and Russell Cooke a rest.

"It wasn't ideal going to extra-time, purely from a fitness and fatigue point of view, but that's not being disrespectful to Arnold who were excellent."

With regard to the Telford postponent, Cox felt frustrated at the late call but with many games having already been called off this winter, it wasn't a new experience.

He said: "We knew Telford had covers and were fairly hopeful the game would go ahead, particularly as we'd boarded the bus and set off.

"But something obviously went wrong and the game was called off. It's frustrating because the players were fired up and mentally ready to play and when they're suddenly told there's no game it can be dis-heartening, so we had to keep their heads up."

Meanwhile, Cox is still keen to add to his playing squad and was hopeful a new addition may have joined up in time for the Vauxhall game.

He said: "We're trying to get a deal sorted in time for Saturday. I still feel there's areas where we're not up to the required strength, and the fact that our side was such a strong one on Tuesday night was testament to the fact that there wasn't a huge number of players to choose from, so I'll be aiming to rectify that."
