EASTWOOD Town claimed derby honours over Kimberley seconds on Saturday to reach the halfway stage of the season still undefeated.
Town have five wins, a winning draw and three abandoned matches to their credit, and have a comfortable lead over second-placed Clifton at the top of Division B.

The game at Kimberley was very competitive, gave excitement to the spectators and was won by Eastwood with four balls to spare in the last over.

Kimberley took first knock on a good looking batting track and although they lost a wicket in the third over, Adam Meads’ 32 and skipper Andy Platts with 37 shared a solid stand to carry the score to 62, before Meads was caught off the bowling of Dean Blake.

At the halfway stage the home side were 99-4 off 24 overs and a big score looked in prospect with excellent knocks of 50 from Jack Coupland, 34 from Steve Bennett and 30 from Mark Longford.

Seven overs of spin from Michael Book brought down the scoring rate and the final total off the 48 overs was 230 all out.

In general, Eastwood’s fielding was a bit below par but David Summers’ 4-43 and Dean Blake’s 4-68 performed well with the ball.

With an asking rate of just under five an over, Eastwood needed a good start and this they got with a stand of 76 between Adam Leigh (49) and Ejaz Ahmed (28) from 17 overs.

Skipper Neil Gregory came in at three to play a first class knock of 63 not out and score the winning run later.

He was well assisted along the way in stands with Steven Leese (29), Michael Cook (15) and Dean Blake (14).

After 24 overs the score was 103-3, and with ten overs to go Eastwood were 182 for 5 needing 49 to win, and three more wickets were lost in the process.

Seconds end losing streak with win against Casuals

Eastwood put their poor start to the season behind them with a comfortable win against fellow strugglers Notts Unity Casuals.

After winning the toss Eastwood captain Tom Buckley put the Casuals into bat on a sunny day at the Breach, and his decision was quickly vindicated with opening bowler Dwayne Buckley bowling Marshall for six.

Shaffique and Sajid then put on a useful partnership before two quick wickets for Longden left Notts Unity in a spot of trouble at 48 for 3.

Longden and Tom Buckley continued to apply the pressure, but some dogged batting by Sajid and Quassim, helped by some below par fielding from Eastwood saw Unity get past 100 with just four wickets down.

However, it wasnt long before Eastwood removed both danger batsmen, Sajid for 35 and Quassim for 31. It was down to Casuals captain Jit Jani and Savage to steer Unity to 158 off their 45 overs.

Eastwood got off to a great start in their chase of Unity’s total. Shaun Stocks and Mark Smith raced along at four an over before Smith was bowled by Quassim with the score on 44.

Fifteen-year-old Ashley Noble carried on where Smith left off, acquitting himself well at number three with a quickfire 19.
