Papplewick & Linby 97 all out lost to KICC 1st XI 98-3
JASON Gorman produced a superb five-wicket haul as Kimberley comfortably disposed of Papplewick on Saturday.
On a mild afternoon, Mick Blatherwick won the toss and asked the home side to bat first.
Gorman achieved a double breakthrough in his third over by dismissing Graham Roberts and new Notts signing Luke Fletcher.
Papplewick slipped further, when Richard Adams bowled John Wakeling to make the score 25-3.
Another double wicket maiden by Gorman left the home side reeling at 45-5, the victims this time being Taimoor Khan and Phil DeFreitas.
Jon Shaw had come into the attack and his lively bowling soon removed three more Papplewick batsmen, as the score slumped to 65-8.
Gorman then claimed his fifth scalp as Wasim Rana was caught behind, ending with superb figures of 5-33 from 15 overs.
Some late hitting from the stubborn Kosala Kulesekara enabled him to pass his 50, but when Shaw bowled him for 56, Papplewick's innings was over with only 97 on the board. Shaw ended with 4-36.
After an early tea had been taken Kimberley began their reply, but lost Nick Langford without scoring with just nine runs on the board.
His dismissal brought Josh Mangan to the crease and he along with Shaw effectively won the game with a 75 run partnership.
Both players fell with victory in sight for identical scores of 40 and it was left to Tom Collishaw and Blatherwick to ease Kimberley home to an emphatic seven wicket victory.
After two rounds of the Notts Premier League season, Kimberley have moved up to equal third place in the table, with their old adversaries West Indian Cavaliers and Caythorpe ahead of them.
The latter have maximum points so far and will prove a stern test for Kimberley when the two teams meet at Caythorpe this weekend.
Gotham Village 1st XI 203-8 lost to KICC 2nd XI 205-7
New captain Andy Platts won the toss and saw the visitors race off to an early flyer.
Danny Williams bore the brunt as Shane Litchfield sent the ball flying over the short Victoria Street boundary.
Steve Bennett (2-29) though, claimed both openers to reduce Gotham to 55-2, but it was the double introduction of spin that really checked the flow of runs.
Craig Pitts bowled ten tidy overs and Alex Heslop bowled his 16 overs for 48, spoilt only by his final two deliveries again clearing the rope.
Fourteen-year-old Prabhdip Sidhu was making his 2nd XI debut and although he too came in for some harsh treatment late on, he picked up three wickets - two of them smart stumpings from Adam Meads.
Gotham totalled a slightly below par score of 203-8, not helped by some smart Kimberley fielding which resulted in two run outs.
Gotham's Brett James began his side’s defence in inspired style. He had openers Meads and Heslop both caught behind the wicket and was unlucky as three further edges failed to be pouched.
