Sri Lankan all-rounder Sajendra Thimal hit the league's highest score of the day and a Langley Mill highest score of the season as the Millers racked up a massive 303-7 on an excellent Riddings batting track.

Thimal's huge knock of 156 included 24 fours and two sixes as the visitors romped to a 19 point winning draw.

Langley Mill batted first in overcast conditions and were soon in trouble when the openers, Andrew and Paul Bailey, were back in the pavilion with only 39 on the board. Andrew was leg before to Drew Fenn for 24 and Paul was caught off Wayne Condron's bowling for nine.

This brought Thimal and Craig Parker to the crease and the pair put on a 90 run third wicket partnership before Parker was caught by Shane Sweeting, off Paul Fenn, for 34.

Aaron Tullett didn't last long, caught by keeper Craig Skull, off Richard Fenn for two, but Danny Hanson and Jack Scott hung around to take the Millers past 200 and maximum batting points.

At 201, Hanson was caught by Drew Fenn, off Shaun Condron, for 17 but Thimal was batting with supreme confidence at the other end as he raced to a chanceless century. Scott fell for 15 with the score on 259 giving Condron a second.

With ten overs to go, Thimal opened up as the Millers run rate went into overdrive. The last ten overs saw 102 runs added to the visitors' total.

Finally, Thimal went for one big hit too many and he holed out off Drew Fenn's bowling for a magnificent 156 as the Millers total topped 300.

James Harrison and Dave Farnsworth both finished unbeaten on four runs and the pick of the unfortunate Riddings bowlers were Wayne Condron with 2 for 70 and Drew Fenn with 2 for 79.

With such a huge total to chase, no-one really expected Riddings to go for the runs and this is how the game progressed.

Paul Fenn top scored with 31, Wayne Condron hit an unbeaten 27 and Sweeting also hit 27 as Riddings settled for the losing draw on 194 for 7.

For the Millers, skipper Andrew Bailey was the best bowler with three for 35 and Farnsworth grabbed a couple for 48.

There was a wicket apiece for Scott and Thimal as the Millers picked up 19 valuable points which maintained their third placing in Division 3 North.

Breadsall entertain Langley Mill on Saturday at Brookside Road in a vital game for both clubs as they push for promotion.

Ball blitz as Millers

mow down Meadows

A magnificent five wicket haul from young Grant Ball saw the Millers' second string through to an easy eight wicket success against Belper Meadows’ third team at Station Road on Saturday.

Ball's 5 for 32 from seven overs ripped the heart out of the Meadows' middle order to reduce them from 66 for 1 to 118 for 7 after Scott Parkin and Jamie Salmons had removed the openers.

Jon Borland top scored for the visitors with 34 before he was stumped off the last ball of the game to give Ball his 5-for.

Pip Nightingale scored 32 and Andy Sherwood 28.
