AFC in fine comeback

Long Eaton Sunday League

Junior Cup

Toton Town 2 AFC Kimberley 4

AFC Kimberley came back from two goals down to overcome Toton in the Junior Cup.

A sloppy goal in the early stages put Toton in front when a free-kick was headed in by an unmarked player.

And in the 22nd minute Toton capitalised once again on some poor AFC defending from set pieces, this time a corner that was headed home once more by a Toton player.

AFC hit back straight awaywhen an inch perfect through ball from captain Ant Harwood saw winger Christian Holmes race through and calmly put the ball past the Toton goalkeeper.

The equaliser came on 43 minutes when Stuart Saunders’ through ball found Gary Pickering who went round the keeper and slotted home.

Kimberley went in front in the 52nd minute, when the Toton keeper scuffed a free-kick out wide straight to Reilly Marshall who was able to put the ball back into an empty net.

And the fourth came moments later when Marshall’s cross was met by Pickering who again rounded the keeper to score what would turn out to be the final goal of an enthralling tie.

Man of the match – James Else.
