Badgers Briefings - by Paddy Farrell

TOMORROW (Sat 30th), Eastwood Town will complete a series of five games in 15 days after more than six weeks of enforced 'weather rest' by travelling to Telford for a Blue Square North fixture.

Of these five games, four have been away from home putting additional stress on the club's finances.

Saturday's kick-off against AFC Telford United, whose pre-season promotion hopes have dramatically declined, will be 3pm, with a supporters' bus leaving at noon.

Next Tuesday we get a short break from chasing league points with a home county senior cup tie against Arnold Town which, according to our official website, has a 7.45pm kick-off.

Traditionally, county cup ties kick-off at 7.30pm so double check please.

Bad news is that it's all pay on the night but good news is that reduced charges will apply - adults 5, concessions 2.

Old friend Bryan Chambers has bowed out as Hucknall Town manager, blaming interference from ex-chairman Brian Holmes.

Mr Holmes indignantly denies 'meddline in football matters at Watnall Road' saying his only involvements at Hucknall were 'overseeing the club's bid to build a new football ground and helping out with financial matters', but admits to warning Bryan off 'ill-judged comments in the local press.'

That this warning took the form of a solicitor's letter was enough to convince Bryan that his season ticket at St James' Park should be better used.

I cannot pretend to disagree but my sympathies are with the club that people like Alf Jackson, John Ramshaw, Paul Cox and, yes, Bryan Chambers have, at various stages, shepherded from Notts Alliance to Conference and now see dangerously stalling.

The Football Conference has warned Northwich Victoria that Conference rules that all creditors must be paid in full (100p in the pound) by May 2010 take precedence over the club's arrangement to pay creditors around 40p in the pound.

Vics chairman Jim Rushe, who has ambitious site development plans, persuaded the FA to over-rule the Conference last season.

Whether he or the representatives of Salisbury City and Farsley Celtic can avoid demotion to the UniBond this time around is more doubtful.

Chester City may avoid this particular rule on a technicality but their very ability to be in existence this time next month is much more important to the fans now officially boycotting the troubled club.

Steve Burr's appointment as manager of Kidderminster Harriers gives him his first chance to supervise full-time players although he has been a full-time gaffer at various clubs since 2000.

Burr, who in his playing days once signed for Bryan Chambers at Stafford Rangers, is said by the Non-League Paper to have earned his current position by 'steering clapped out vehicles like Hucknall and Northwich' to success at step two, only to miss out on technical grounds.

Hars words for clubs whose 'shilling' he presumably was glad to accept.

Whilst agreeing that Bradford Park Avenue's signing of Mark Hume coincides with their advance to promotion favourites, my advice is 'watch North Ferriby!'.

Avenue can splash the cash but United just keep on winning.
