Boots beaten in thriller

Boots Athletic 3

Kimberley MW 5

Kimberley MW moved up to fifth in the Precision NSL on Tuesday evening with a 5-3 win over newly-promoted Boots Athletic.

Kimberley started brightly and Josh Stevenson’s header was well saved by Gasgoine in the Boots goal.

Kimberley went controversially behind when Joe Staley was adjudged to have fouled Bakone in the box and Matt Walsh was sent the wrong way from the spot.

Welfare were soon to be 2-0 down as another soft free-kick was given on the edge of the box from which a free header at the back post gave Walsh no chance.

This was the boost needed by Welfare is almost instantly Ish Bartley fired home to pull one back and then Ian Shepherd’s header soon drew the visitors level, Hutchinson and Fisher also having chances saved by the keeper before the break.

It was the introduction of the returning Martin Lench that gave Kimberley the boost in the game as his superb finish gave them the lead, however Bakone soon levelled the scores again after rounding Walsh.

Kimberley kept plugging away and got their rewards when Jake Fisher fired them in front, and it was game over with five minutes to go when substitute Leon Roberts superbly finished to round off the win.

Kimberley host Ruddington on Saturday, kick-off 3pm at the Stag Ground.
