PUPILS from Selston Arts & Community College have won a nail biting Aviva Sportshall Athletics competition at Nottingham University, crowning them Nottinghamshire County Champions for 2012.

The boys, Jake Haslam, Cameron Gascoyne, Callum Close, Cellan Shacklock, Fallon Tatham and Jake Redding - all Year Seven students - qualified for the county level competition, which took place at the Nottinghamshire School Winter Games Day, following their victory at the district level where they beat pupils from five other secondary schools in Ashfield.

The county competition took place between the winning schools from Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, City of Nottingham, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood and Rushcliffe. In a close fought competition, Selston won with a winning score of 217 points, beating Nottingham High School into second place by just one point.

They recorded consistent podium finishes throughout the programme of events, witnessed by a crowd of over 100 spectators which included GB Gymnast, Sam Hunter, and GB Canoeist, Laura Blakeman.

The Selston team is now training hard to prepare for the regional tournament on Tuesday, April 17, where they will represent Nottinghamshire against the county champions from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire.
