Big defeat for Kimberley seconds

Calverton CC 1st XI 269—8 beat KICC 2nd XI 139 All Out by 130 runs
Kimberley ICC’s bad weekend continued as the seconds fell to a heavy away defeat at Calverton.

The home side batted first and posted an impressive 269-8 from their 48 overs with Matt Dean leading the way with exactly 100 and he received support from Darren Wright (68) and skipper Callum Jayes (34).

Ian Wright (3-66) had the pick of the bowling figures with Max Sugarman (2-40), Prab Sidhu (2-72) and Steve Bennett (1-46) claiming the other wickets.

Like the 1st’s the 2nd’s batting wilted and only Mick Blatherwick (30) could muster a real score of note in the top order as they tried to hold out for a losing draw. Skipper Pete Wright (29*) did his best lower down the batting line-up but when Suroop Kandola (15) fell in the 40th over it was in vain as Calverton claimed the win with Kimberley all out for 139; Kyle Welch (3-18) and Michael Nester (3-28) were the pick of the bowling.

The defeat leaves the seconds in eighth place in Division B and looking nervously over their shoulder and they will be hoping to pick up some positive results over the next few weeks.
