Eastwood Community FC’s busy pre-season schedule has continued with three tough encounters against Worksop Town, South Normanton Athletic and Aston over the last week.
The visit of NCEL Premier Division side Worksop saw ‘Wood put in a spirited display despite them losing the game 4-1, before they beat South Normanton 2-1 on Saturday and then Aston 2-0 on Tuesday night.
The Worksop game saw Eastwood take a shock early lead when new signing Elliott Pitt fired a spectacular free-kick into the top corner, but Scott Henshaw levelled the scores just before half-time.
Worksop pushed on in the second-half and their dominance paid off as goals from Kyle Jordan, Mitch Husbands and Shaq McKenzie rounded off their win.
The trip to South Normanton saw a goalless first-half before an error from young Eastwood goalkeeper Steve Dennis let in Ashley Whitt who put the ball in the net.
Eastwood levelled when Matt Brian struck the equaliser from a corner, then Brian turned provider as his cross was turned in by Dave Worger to put the visitors in front.
That was enough to secure victory against the East Midlands Counties League side.
Tuesday saw Paul Holland’s Aston-on-Trent arrive at Coronation Park, the visitors set to ply their trade in the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division this season having secured promotion last season.
After a close opening 20 minutes it was Eastwood who went in front when Warren Hatfield flicked the ball on and Kione Gordon was able to find the net.
Hatfield nearly added a second but saw his cheeky lob strike the post, the scoreline remaining 1-0 until half-time.
Gordon went close to a second on 52 minutes and Worger fired just wide soon afterwards, but the second goal arrived on 72 minutes as Jak Lightly’s effort was saved and Carl Allsopp followed up to find the net and secure the victory for Paul MacFarland’s men.
Eastwood’s final two friendlies will see them host the club’s reserve team on Saturday at Coronation Park at 3pm before a visit to Notts Senior League side Underwood Villa next Tuesday night at 6.45pm.
The first game of the Central Midlands League South season will see them host Pinxton on August 8.
