TWO more players joined Eastwood Town’s ever-growing squad this week as manager John Ramshaw continues planning for next season.
Midfielder Fabian Smith and defender Alton Rennalls are the latest to sign for the Coronation Park club as the Badgers prepare to return for pre-season training this weekend, three weeks before their first scheduled friendly fixture.
And Ramshaw says he is pleased with the way his team is now taking shape.
He said: “I’ve said all along I want to have at least two players for every position to create not only depth but also competition, and we’re quickly filling that brief.
“That won’t mean we have a squad of 22 or 23, as some players’ versatility means they can be used in three or four positions, but I’m hoping to have around 18 or 19 to work with.
“We’ve invited some other players to pre-season training so we can have a look at them, and a few may get run-outs in the friendlies, but as things stand I’m happy with those I’ve brought in.”
Smith has been around the local football circuit for several years having turned out for Ilkeston Town, Hucknall Town and most recently Quorn, while Rennalls is a right-back who appeared for Mansfield Town and Rushden & Diamonds before most recently playing for Belper Town.
Ramshaw added that goalkeeper Sam Andrew’s contract has now been signed and that he also hopes to persuade Paul Riley to return to the club.
He said: “Like Fabian and Alton, Riles is a local lad and personifies what we want to bring to the club, so I’ll be chatting to him in due course.”
