Today’s rumours from the world of football . . . .
French paper Le 10 Sport are reporting that United will pay Neymar’s £140 million release clause to sign him next summer. The Reds are desperate to land a superstar signing - and Neymar fits the bill. It seems unlikely he would leave Barcelona but, if he does, United’s long-term pursuit would surely put them in pole position to land him. (Manchester Evening News).
United have been linked with a move for Lazio winger Felipe Anderson and Marquinhos, PSG’s Brazilian defender. The 21-year-old became the most expensive teenager in the game when he moved to PSG from Roma in 2013 for €31.4 million. (Manchester Evening News).
Liverpool and Tottenham are battling it out to sign record-breaking Venezuelan wonderkid Adalberto Penaranda. The Granada striker became the youngest player in the club’s history when he made his debut against Athletic Bilbao in November. Penaranda’s meteoric rise is even more remarkable considering he was incredibly shot last year. The forward — then contracted Deportivo La Guaira in his homeland — was at a party with team-mates when they were attacked by gunmen. He was hospitalised after a bullet passed through his thigh. Liverpool are expected to announce their first signing under Jurgen Klopp today. Marko Grujic will become the first new arrival at Anfield under the German manager when he completes his £5.1million move from Red Star Belgrade. (Sky Sports).
Ronaldinho has been contacted by a number of English clubs as he weighs up the next move in his colourful career. The Brazilian superstar believes he has four more years of playing time left — and is still in demand with sides around the world. The 35-year-old will star for Fluminense in a friendly tournament in America at the end of the month before signing for someone else on a permanent basis in February. (The Sun).
Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Mohamed Elneny from Basel, according to Sky sources. The Gunners are understood to have agreed a fee of £7 million with the Swiss Super League-leaders. Elneny - an Egypt international with 36 caps - still needs to complete a medical and get international clearance before his transfer to the Emirates can be finalised. (Sky Sports).
Leeds United are hoping to sign Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty during the January transfer window. Lafferty, 28, has been unable to command a first team place with Norwich City and wants to be playing regularly before the Euro 2016 tournament. (BBC Sport).
