Kimberley’s excellent form continues

Long Eaton Sunday League

Division Three

AFC Kimberley 6

Long Eaton Magpies 1

AFC Kimberley continued their run of fantastic form with an emphatic victory against Long Eaton Magpies.

AFC dominated the game from start to finish and it could have easily been well into double figures, and they have now scored 15 goals in their last three games.

The first ten minutes saw AFC produce some lovely fast-paced, one-touch football but they were unable to create an opening due to some desperate last ditch defending from the visiting side.

But the lead arrived on 13 minutes when full-back Matt Newton got forward to smash home after Vaughen Crompton’s mis-hit shot had fallen his way.

Six minutes later and the Dragons got a second, Lloyd Harmer and Reilly Marshall combining to set up Vaughen Crompton who this time made no mistake.

Gary Pickering, James Else and Ant Harwood all went close to a third but eventually came when Marshall rounded the keeper and slotted home.

The fourth came right on half-time, Reece Crompton’s corner headed in by Mike Jones.

Jones then saw an effort from distance pushed over by the keeper early in the second-half, but Vaughen Crompton soon added a fifth from Marshall’s cross.

Sloppy defending then gifted Long Eaton a consolation on 68 minutes.

But after Pickering had missed a good opportunity to make it six, it finally arrived in stoppage time when substitute Jake Courtney headed into the bottom corner from near the penalty spot.

Man-of-the-match: Reece Crompton.

Kimberley: Kelley, R Crompton, Newton, Harwood, Jones, Groves (Holmes 61), Harmer, Else, Pickering, V Crompton (Courtney 78), Marshall (Ryan 66)
