MARK Allott has left Chesterfield after reaching an agreement with the club to terminate his contract.

The experienced midfielder’s last game for the Spireites was the 1-0 win against Aldershot on October 6.

The 35-year-old, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, made 385 appearances during two spells with the club.

He said: “I’d like to thank the fans and everyone I’ve worked with during my time at the club.

“I’ve made many friends here and experienced every emotion, helping Chesterfield win the League Two title and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley, as well as suffering relegation.

“I’ve been training so I’ll be looking to keep fit in the hope of finding a new club in the near future.”

Allott first joined the club on loan from Oldham Athletic in December 2001 before signing permanently two months later.

He went on to make over 200 appearances in five-and-a-half years with Chesterfield before rejoining Oldham in the summer of 2007.

He spent two years at Boundary Park before moving to Tranmere Rovers. But manager Ronnie Moore’s departure just a few days later resulted in him leaving the club to return to Chesterfield without making an appearance.

Chief executive Chris Turner paid tribute to Allott.

He said: “Mark has been a superb professional, winning Player of the Year awards and giving his all for the club over the years.

“I’d like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the club, to thank him for his loyal service and wish him well for the future.

“Paul Cook has decided that Mark does not figure in his first team plans so a mutually acceptable deal has been agreed which will give him an opportunity to seek a new club.”
