Round-up by Mick Gorman
On Tuesday, June 7, Russell Bowls Club were the visitors to Coronation Park in the 3 x 4 league.
Greasley lost to Russell on the first day of the season and were determined to improve on that result. An exciting and close game followed with the outcome not becoming clear until the last end of the match. Greasley won by three shots.
On rink one on the first end, the four Greasley bowlers recorded a ‘hotshot’.
This feat is rare and difficult to achieve and is probably comparable to a golfer’s ‘hole in one’, with all eight woods of the Greasley bowlers closer to the jack than any one of the opposition’s.
Congratulations to Brian Griffin, Stan Farnsworth, John Pick and Clayton Wardle.
The following evening Greasley travelled to Kimberley for a 3 x 3 league match. After three successive losses in this league it was gratifying for the team to win by 5-1.
On Thursday the 9th Proprietary Bowls Club came to Coronation Park. Always a good match against an excellent team, Greasley bowlers proved to be too strong on this occasion and emerged as comfortable 5-1 winners.
The four-match winning run came to an end on Saturday as despite home advantage, Greasley lost yet again to Arnold Park Bowls Club.
The next home match is not until Tuesday, June 28 with a 6.30pm start.
