Round-up by Mick Gorman
No report last week due to a well earned holiday.
I managed to miss five games, the results being three wins and two losses. A good win away at Bulwell Forest in the 4 x 3 league was followed by a loss to Porchester at home in the Saturday 3 x 4 league.
An excellent home victory against Trent Vale was the third time this season that Greasley have overcame a very good bowling side.
The run of victories continued with the visit to Coronation Park of Kimberley Bowls Club.
I have been reliably informed that club treasurer Terry Marriott was in outstanding form both as skip, and when he swapped to number two, narrowly beating a strong Kimberley trio.
Having beaten Proprietary three times this season, the team went away feeling confident. The usual close and good natured match followed with Proprietary gaining the win.
Gillian Marriott’s name was mentioned by several of the team members as the pick of the team on the day. She mastered the green at a very early stage and continued to bowl well throughout the match.
Blidworth Bowls Club were the visitors to Coronation Park on Saturday the 30th.
Greasley lost on two rinks. The only winning rink was helped in no small measure, by the accurate and consistent bowling of Howard Jones, arguably his best match this season.
The highlight of Saturday’s match was the arrival of the new shirts. It was decided by club members it was time to modernise the shirts and remove the Hardy Hanson logo.
The players would like to thank the committee and members of Greasley Miners Welfare for their generous contribution towards the cost of the shirts.
The Welfare bowls club badge is now more prominently displayed. Many thanks to Neil Griffin for all the hard work and time spent organising, collecting and distributing them.
The next home league match is on Monday the 8th at 6pm.
