REPRESENTATIVES of Nuthall Parish Council, Notts Constabulary, branches of the British Legion and local bowls clubs have taken part in a charity bowls drive.

The event, organised by Brian Watson, secretary of Nuthall Northern Bowls Club, took place on the green at Basil Russell Recreation Ground, where 32 players competed for the Nuthall Parish Council shield.

The men’s competition was won by Ken Hopwood and the women’s by Barbara Pigott.

A raffle run by Hillier Jordan and teas prepared by Betty Watson brought in a sum of £60 for the Royal British Legion funds.

John Jackson, county chairman of the Royal British Legion, heaped praise on the organisers.

He said: “This was a typical British community event that was noticeable for its fun, friendship and sporting excellence.”
