Young footballers representing Hempshill Hall Primary School in Nuthall have had taste of the big time after they took part in and won a prestigious competition which was hosted by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

There was a nail-biting finish to the finals of the annual Ron Matthews Memorial Trophy which saw Hempshill’s young stars triumph following a thrilling penalty shoot-out.

Six Nottingham Primary Schools contested the Under-11s (small sided) games and Hempshill, captained by Ben Wallis, progressed to the final following a 1-0 victory over Bulwell’s Cantrell Primary, Lewis Williams scoring the all important goal.

The final against Wollaton’s Fernwood School was another thrilling affair which ended in a 0-0 draw, to be followed followed by extra-time which also ended in a stalemate.

The resultant penalty shoot-out tested the mettle of Hempshill’s penalty takers Wallis and Tom Skellett who duly scored to clinch a well earned success.

The Ron Matthews Memorial Trophy success completed a remarkable treble for Hempshill whose squad, coached and managed by Jonathan Wright and Darren Palethorpe, had previously won the Schools Karnival (correct)Tournament and the Primary Schools League title.

Hempshill’s all conquering squad was made up of Liam Spooner, Ben Atkin, Fletcher Parker, Ben Wallis, T.G, Tom Skellett, Lewis Williams, Jayden Smith, Jacob Taylor, Harry Davies, Owen Allen and Conor Brownlow.
