EASTWOOD failed to recover from the early sending off of Mitch Hanson as Histon took all three points at Coronation Park on Saturday.

The Badgers felt aggrieved when Hanson was shown a straight red for a two-footed lunge in the 12th minute despite winning the ball in a 50/50 challenge.

However, the players rallied and when they threw caution to the wind after the visitors took a two-goal lead, they could have scored a hatful.

Histon slightly edged a slow opening with Omer Riza’s shot forcing James Severn into a smart save and a half chance for Gavin Caines at the other end the moments of note.

Once Hanson had seen red Histon took control of the game with Dan Holman and Pelayo Gomez looking dangerous.

The Badgers had the first real chance of the game when Jevaise Christie ran at the defence before slipping in Paul Riley but Austrian keeper Jorg Stadelmann was equal to the captain’s shot.

Daniel Sparkes wasted a half chance for the visitors but they were to lead in the 35th minute.

Poor marking from a corner allowed the ball to travel through to Danny Fitzsimons who made no mistake with a sweetly struck shot.

Holman and then Gomez flashed shots the wrong side of the post just before the break, while Eastwood had a good chance to equalise early in the second-half but Christie’s goalbound effort was pushed around the post by Stadelmann.

Holman shot wide and Severn pulled off a fine stop to deny James Stevenson, but Histon extended their lead in the 67th minute when Riza was given too much time and space to control and then beat Severn with a well-taken shot.

Surprisingly, the goal inspired the Badgers. Jarrod Westcarr and Lavell White were brought on up front and the change had an immediate effect as on 76 minutes Aaron Mitchell headed Riley’s corner back across goal and Westcarr scored from close range.

Remy Clerima then almost turned Riley’s free-kick into his own goal and Mitchell’s header drifted wide from another set piece.

But the best chance of an equaliser fell to Westcarr who ran through the defence and steered his shot past Stadelmann but the ball struck the wrong side of the post and away from danger.

Connor Brown’s free-kick dipped late to just clear the crossbar as the Badgers peppered the Histon goal in an attempt to salvage something from the game, but the visitors rode their luck to claim all three points
