Holmesy hits four to send Badgers into semis
IAN Holmes hit four goals as Eastwood Town eased past Kirkby and into the semi-finals of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup.
It was as comfortable a win as the Badgers could have wished for, and saw them find the net with a freedom that has been lacking in recent weeks.
Eastwood opened well and new signing Sam Duncum's fifth minute cross found Holmes whose shot was saved.
Anton Foster blasted wide and Danny Holland was crowded out before Eastwood took the lead around the quarter-of-an-hour mark.
Holland found Holmes in plenty of space and he slotted past Paul Stanhope.
Eastwood's attacks were relentless and Holland was next to show but his shot was weak and claimed by the keeper.
Lindon Meikle then came to life with a fine run and shot that beat Stanhope but was cleared off the line, via a post, for a corner.
Paul Robinson headed wide but the second goal wasn't far away and it was a first for the club from Jonathan D'Laryea.
Duncum was again involved and he found Holland who squared for the ex-Mansfield man to fire home.
The third came just before the break when Meikle was fould and from the free-kick Robinson tapped home after Kirkby claimed offside to no avail.
The second-half continued much in the same vein and Holmes notched his second by tapping into an empty net after a mix-up between goalkeeper and defender.
Holland and sub David Brown went close before Holmes headed in a corner to make it 5-0.
Markell Bailey then beat three defenders but his finish was poor, and Holmes put the ball wide after a free-kick.
The sixth came late on as Holmes beat Stanhope to the ball and tapped it in.
Brown and Russell Cooke had further chances to score, and were it not for heroics from Stanhope the score could have been much more emphatic, but Eastwood were safely through.
