Local kickboxers unite to fight for charity

FIGHTERS from Eastwood impressed as Midlands PKA Kickboxing club held a charity tournament in aid of the Huntingdon’s Disease Association.

In total there were around 60 fights held at the Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston, with the charity chosen due to a student at the club’s Eastwood branch suffering with Huntingdon’s Disease.

It was an action-packed day consisting of light contact fights and point scoring matches along with demonstrations from some of the junior members.

Instructor Jo Jones said: “It was great to see members from clubs across the East Midlands coming together with non-experienced and veteran fighters showing great skill and sportsmanship to a large crowd.”

A total of £1,165 was raised for the charity, and there were gold medals for local competitors James Colson, Harvey Payne and Cory Page as well as a silver medal for Amie Thacker.
