Badgers set for takeover

Talk of another takeover was again on the lips of Eastwood Town fans this week as question marks over the club’s future arose once more.

A message posted on the Badgers’ official website on Saturday claimed current owner Steve Lynch was in an ‘advanced stage’ of discussion with regard to the club being taken over, but no further news has broken since.

The statement read: “Owner Steve Lynch today revealed that talks over the club’s ownership were at an advanced stage with an interested party.

“Subject to terms and conditions, the sale should be concluded over the next few days.”

Speaking on Wednesday, manager John Ramshaw said he had received no other information, but was also reluctant to get involved in too many issues away from the playing side of the club.

He said: “I’d rather keep out of it to be honest. I got involved a lot last season and I feel it distracted the football aspect a bit.

“Who will run the club and the speculation surrounding it is none of my business at the moment. My job is to try and resurrect the playing side and prepare for next season.

“We have to get on with things no matter what is going on.”

With that in mind, Ramshaw, who welcomed his players back for pre-season training on Saturday, announced the club has re-signed Paul Riley from Matlock Town and said several triallists were in attendance at the weekend.

“We’re delighted to have Riles back as he’s an Eastwood lad through and through and shows great commitment and drive,” he said.

“We had 27 players in attendance at training which was pleasing so we’re getting a good look at what is now available to us.”
