Notts 252-4 (64)

Brendan Taylor and Samit Patel made the most of dry, sunny conditions and a placid surface, as they batted throughout the entire afternoon session at Trent Bridge to reach tea on 252 for four.

Taylor put his poorest form behind him as he registered his first championship century at Trent Bridge, reaching the landmark from 145 balls, with 17 fours.

After struggling for runs in the early weeks of the season Taylor looked to be back to his best as he registered his 27th first class hundred and then celebrated wildly with Patel, who has so far helped him add an unbroken 159 for the fifth wicket.

Patel brought up two milestones when he pulled Paul Collingwood away for a boundary, reaching his 50 from 84 deliveries at the same time as he hit the 10,000 first class run mark.

Earlier, two wickets for Chris Rushworth and one from Graham Onions had reduced Notts to 27 for three, after the home side had elected to bat first.
