Kimberley MW 3 Keyworth 2
Kimberley Miners Welfare got their Notts Senior League season off to a winning start on Saturday.
Kimberley started well with Chaplin going close after five minutes, but on ten minutes Fisher broke clear to score the opener.
Fisher then put Roberts in the clear but he couldn’t finish, but the second goal arrived on 28 minutes when Chaplin received a quick throw and beat the defenders to score.
More chances came for Fisher and Chaplin before half-time but they were not taken.
After 57 minutes Kimberley were awarded a penalty which was taken by Tinsley but well saved by the keeper.
However, from the resulting corner, Tinsley made amends by firing home the third Kimberley goal.
Keyworth pulled a goal back through Hanrahan with 20 minutes to go, and Chilvers then netted their second with ten minutes remaining to make it a nervy finish.
Rollston and Bartley both had chances to make the game safe for Welfare but neither could do so, although they were able to hang on for three points.
Saturday’s win was then followed up by a 3-1 defeat at home to Attenborough at the Stag Ground.
Kimberley are next in action on Tuesday (27th) when they visit Boots Athletic.
