Two young pool players from Phoenix Cue Sports Club in Eastwood are to represent England at the sport.

Tom Pulford of Newthorpe tops the averages in Region Eight of the Junior Inter-County League and has therefore qualifed to trial for England on Saturday.

Langley Mill’s Arron Priest qualified last year and was high up in the regional rankings and has therefore been retained for England.

Jo Coe, Phoenix Cue Sports manager and herself a Northern Ireland international player, said: “The club is home to many internationals.

“Nottinghamshire County pool, the English Pool Association (EPA) and the venue fully encourage young people to get involved in the game and continually improve.”

On Tuesday, Nottinghamshire county councillor Keith Longden paid a visit to Phoenix Cue Sports where the two young players were practicing to congratulate them on their success.

Cllr Longden, a committee member of the Eastwood Young People’s Centre, said: “We should be very proud of our local young people, as many are taking the great opportunities that are available to them.

“I think Arron and Tom’s achievements are amazing.”

There will be county youth practice at Phoenix Cue Sports for under-18s this Sunday (19th) from noon until 5pm. The sessions are open to all interested young players and are supported by Community First Funding.
