Priory partake in an 18-goal thriller

Priory Celtic round-up

Even though the half-term holidays meant there were far fewer games for the Priory teams there certainly wasn’t a shortage of goals in Sunday’s game between the U13 Greens and Pegasus Hawks.

Normally when you score eight goals at home, with four goals for your top scorer Joshua Wright and a hat-trick from man of the match Elliot Bott, you would expect to have three points secure.

Not so in this extraordinary match, as Pegasus scored two more goals than their hosts to win 10-8.

Also in Sunday’s action the U16s returned from Derby with a 5-0 win at Al-Madina.

First-half goals from new signing Kris Cieslak and Adam Gregory gave them a 2-0 lead at half-time. Cieslak completed his double in the second-half adding to goals by Jake Pearce and Joe Shortland to give Priory a well-deserved win.

In friendly action the U7s entertained East Leake on the new 3G 5v5 pitch at Kimberley Leisure Centre, Jacob King claiming the man of the match award.

The ever improving U9s added six points to their first phase total and finish in a respectable fourth place with two comfortable wins over Holy Spirit and Stapleford Villa.

A Kaine Bray strike was enough for a 1-0 win over Holy Spirit and he added two more alongside further efforts from Luke Burgon and Ben Spencer to ensure a 4-0 win against Stapleford Villa.

In a top-of-the-table clash the U10 Greens put in a real battling performance to share the spoils with Toton Tornados in a 2-2 draw, Bobby Watson scoring both the goals as well as winning the man of the match award.

The result leaves Matt Ellis’s team with one hand on a runners-up and promotion place.

The U13s easily saw off Trowell FC 7-0, goals coming from Robbie Horsley (3), Craig Bray (2), Matthew Hallam and Josh Leondhart.

The result moves the Whites up to third place, three points behind the second promotion place with a game in hand

Taking a break from the league, the U11 Whites will be happy with a 3-2 win over Gedling Southbank, goals from Ben Griffiths, Will Moore and a fine solo effort from man of the match Liam Garner giving the boys confidence before a tough cup draw at FC Cavaliers in a fortnight’s time.

Priory’s new soccer school for boys and girls of all ability continues each Wednesday at the Leisure Centre between 6-7pm on the new 3G pitches.
