Youngster Dal earns plaudits for Kimberley ICC

KICC 1st XI 168-9 drew with Wollaton 142-7

THIS low scoring match provided warming entertainment in chilly late summer weather.

The advantage swung back and forth but, in the end, the Institute won.

Their patiently persistent bowling gained the honours and points.

A pleasing feature of the game was the debut of Anuj Dal in Premier League cricket, only a few weeks after his 14th birthday. His accurate bowling earned him 1 for 17 in eight overs, the honour of leading his colleagues from the field and warm applause.

Put into to bat first, Kimberley's skipper Sam Ogrizovic elevated himself to opener. After the loss of Terry with only four scored, he steadied the recovery with a patient 29.

Kiwi Jarred Sewell, carefully, and Nick Langford, rapidly, both just failed to get half centuries.

Although below the usual scoring rate, at 120 for 3 a near-200 score remained a possibility. But conditions always favoured the bowlers and the remaining batters were unable to up the scoring.

Wollaton also lost an early wicket before consolidating. At times they looked to have the advantage but Kimberley's bowlers do not surrender easily. They struck at just the right time.

In the end Wollaton also found it impossible to raise the scoring rate. Nagged by young Dal's accurate bowling they were obliged to settle for a losing draw.

Richard Adams's haul of wickets for the season was increased as he took 4-23.

KICC 2nd XI 143-3 beat Attenborough 2nds 142-9

The second XI secured another important victory that sets the scene for the most dramatic final day of the South Notts season. Any one of five teams could end up in the final relegation spot from Division C, but Kimberley have their fate in their own hands.

This win was highlighted by Matt Ross who claimed 4-55, but the real star with the ball was Ian Wright. He bowled 16 excellent overs, conceding just 20 runs and taking three wickets. Steve Bennett bowled with economy as Attenborough were restricted to 142-9.

The opening partnership for Kimberley put the game within easy grasp, as a typically aggressive 48 from Craig Pitts took the score to 80. His runs were scored off only 44 balls. At the other end, Ryan Buckley scored a fine 56 as Kimberley eased home. The final game is against champions West Bridgfordians.

KICC 3rd XI 85 all out lost to Lambley Village 86-4

The 3rd XI ended their season in disappointing style with a comprehensive six-wicket defeat at home to Lambley Village 1sts.

Paul Richardson opted to bat first but might have had second thoughts when Paul Rockley was dismissed in the first over.

However Dominic Brown and Prabhdip Sidhu added 38 runs until the latter was caught for 14.

The bowler was ex-Kimberley man Sam Freeman, who bowled a superb nine-over spell that cost only eight runs.

He also claimed two further wickets including that of Brown for 24. Kimberley were bowled out for 85.

Lambley set off at a brisk pace, trying to get the 20 points that would give them an outside chance of promotion. Ben Barsby broke the opening stand with an alert piece of fielding to run out Spurr. But 28 from Burnett and 19 from Michael Freeman helped ease their side home.

KICC 4th XI 59-1 beat West Bridgford Legion 2nd XI 55 all out

After a wet week, the Titchfield Park wicket was still damp and looked a challenging surface for batting on. Kimberley won the toss and had no hesitation in asking West Bridgford Legion to bat. Paul Newton and Alex Beale opened with tight accurate bowling, surrendering just 16 runs from the first 14 overs, with Paul collecting a couple of wickets.

The support bowlers continued to apply the pressure, Sam Beale unlucky not to take a wicket from six very challenging overs, while Ashley Britton took 3-5 and Rich Kelley 4-12. As usual the fielding was tremendous.

West Bridgford Legion accumulated 55 all out.

Kimberley set off for their target with Paul Newton and Tim Wheatley. Tim batted very nicely, with a couple of positive shots before being bowled, while Paul blasted his way to 48 not out in helping the fourths reach their target in just 11 overs.

This was a stunning innings, as no other batsmen matched his power or timing all day, which allowed the Fourths to secure promotion.

KICC Sunday XI 225-4 beat Gotham Village 186-1

Pete Wright's Sunday XI secured the Division Four crown at home to Gotham Village.

With each innings reduced by five overs, Kimberley racked up 225-4. James Griffiths made 58 and Dominic Wheatley 46, but the stand out innings was Dominic Brown's 83.

Gotham, needing almost six and a half runs per over, gave it a good go and 120 runs were scored for the opening wicket. The run rate eventually proved too much.
