The Sound Of Musicals is the latest production from Good Companions Stage Society and it can be seen at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre from April 8-12.
It’s catchy tunes all the way in this entertaining romp through more musicals than you thought you could remember.
Following their big hit musical, The Witches of Eastwick, The Sound of Musicals celebrates shows as diverse as My Fair Lady, Brigadoon and Camelot, to Book of Mormon, Oklahoma! and Sister Act, while throwing in some comic asides along the way.
It’s a show for the successful partnership of the production team with Zoe Varney as musical director, Pauline Reader as choreographer and Barbara Ashmore as producer to celebrate the talent within the company, so there are solos as well as ensemble numbers, comedy sketches and dance numbers which give people an equal chance to shine and an opportunity for audiences to see why this amateur society has won numerous awards.
“This year, we have chosen to go back to a winning formula of songs from the shows and comedy sketches to bring our audiences a night of pure entertainment,” said producer Barbara Ashmore while musical director Zoe Varney added: “As well as more traditional songs, the company have worked hard to present some choral numbers and songs from new and upcoming shows.”
For an evening of pure escapism from wet and windy weather and the doom and gloom of the news, then join the Good Companions and leave whistling a show tune or two.
Evening performances start at 7.30pm and there is an additional Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8-£10 and are available on 01332 255800.
