Mark’s work is on display at cathedral

Derby Cathedral’s latest exhibition, by artist Mark Cazalet, runs daily until March 28,Mondays to Saturdays, 9am to 3.30pm) in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge entitled The Path to Calvary.

The March exhibition is a repeat of last year’s, which had to close early for the refurbishment of the Cathedral Centre.

As Easter this year is at the end of March, it will be on show until Maundy Thursday as the centre will be closed on Good Friday.

Born in London and trained at Chelsea School of Art, Falmouth, Paris and Baroda (India) Mark Cazalet (www.markcazalet.co.uk) is a versatile artist whose Christian faith has been expressed in some notable commissions.

The Path to Calvary was originally commissioned to illustrate a book first published in 1994.

Derby Cathedral exhibitions officer, Geoff Robson, said: “The images have an immediacy which, through their dramatic composition and intense feeling, challenge us to relate the reality of Jesus’s suffering, death and resurrection to our own present day lives.

“Not all the events are recorded in the Gospels, a Biblical reference is given alongside those which are.

“Others are the product of devout imagination, filling out the stark details of the Gospel narrative.”
