Shrovetide game is focus of new film

Wild In The Streets, a documentary film about Shrovetide football, will screen at Quad in Derby on March 2 and 3.

For the past 1,000 years, the people of Ashbourne have gathered to continue the longest running sports rivalry on earth, Shrovetide football. Kings, revolutions and wars have tried to stop the game but every Shrove Tuesday two teams line up to play a football game that is played across the whole town and involves hundreds – if not thousands of people.
